Qualcomm’s Quad Snapdragon S4 Pro Tablet Now Available to Developers - fishfriese1951
Nvidia may have been first to the quadcore game, but Qualcomm is set up to induce the competition.
Connected Tuesday daybreak in San Francisco, Qualcomm introduced the crusade to its latest Snapdragon central processing unit running happening a developer tablet. The Snapdragon S4 Pro is Qualcomm's forthright competition to Nvidia's quadcore Tegra 3 processor. Built by BSquare, this tablet (a.k.a. a Unsettled Exploitation Program, or MDP) is available today from BSquare's internet site for $1300.
We first saw the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor in February at Mobile World Congress, merely this is the archetypical time we've seen it connected a working, not-prototype device. The S4 has 4 asynchronous CPU cores running play up to 1.5GHz each. The platform also features the new Adreno 320 GPU (artwork processing unit), which Qualcomm claims is two times faster than the Adreno 225 GPU ground connected previous Snapdragon platforms.
The Adreno 320 brings richer graphics rendering, including more dynamic inflammation and shading effects. We saw around position-aside-side screenshots of a spirited running along the Adreno 225 versus the 320, and, as you derriere see from the example pic, the difference in graphics is really ostensible:
Because the S4 is quadcore, it can support multithreaded applications, operating theatre applications that run multiple processes at once. This is a Brobdingnagian deal for games–phones that can support simultaneous processes allow for fluid, snappy games with high-quality artwork.
One provocative have of the Adreno 320 is that IT supports the ability to rent a picture first and focus in on a subject afterward. Sound familiar? Essentially, Qualcomm's platform has the API and driver support to do scant-orbit photography, the technology seen along the Lytro camera.
Maybe as a nod to its competitor Nvidia's Tegra 3 fifth core group, Qualcomm same that there was none need for an "unnecessary" kernel to conserve battery lifetime. According to Qualcomm, the S4 Pro is intentional to have all-day barrage fire life history.
The developer pad of paper has a 10.1-inch WXGA multi-signature display with a 13-megapixel back-facing camera with a shoot. It runs Android 4.0 (Frost Cream Sandwich), though Qualcomm was display a tablet running Android 4.1 (Jellybean).
We'll induce a detailed hands-on of the Snapdragon S4 developer tablet coming later today so check back for our first impressions of the first off device running Qualcomm's quadcore weapons platform.
